AFC Bournemouth: Addicks boss confirms Cherries' interest in Kermorgant

Bournemouth Echo: CHERRIES TARGET: Charlton's Yann Kermorgant CHERRIES TARGET: Charlton's Yann Kermorgant

CHARLTON manager Chris Powell has today confirmed Cherries’ interest in Addicks striker Yann Kermorgant.

The 32-year-old frontman yesterday held talks with Cherries after the clubs had agreed a fee of between £400,000 and £500,000.

News that Cherries were on the trail of the Frenchman was revealed exclusively by the Daily Echo on Twitter on Monday.

Kermorgant, who joined Charlton from Leicester in 2011, netted for the Addicks in their opening day defeat by Cherries at Dean Court.

A hugely popular figure at the Valley, Kermorgant is out of contract in the summer, although Charlton have an option to extend.

Speaking exclusively to the South London Press earlier today, Powell said: “Yann is arguably my best signing with regards to cost and what he has brought to the club.

“But he is in a situation where he has six months to go and the club has looked at the situation. There has been a discussion in trying to get a deal agreed but now there has been an enquiry.

“Whether that will go through after talks between Yann, his advisors, Bournemouth and discussions with our club, we are yet to see exactly what will happen.

“I know Yann is very attached to the club and the area. He has settled in really well in London. I 100 per cent would like him to stay but realise the position that he and the club are in.”

Cherries utility man Joe Partington is expected to extend his loan spell with Aldershot until the end of the season, having initially joined for a month at the start of January.

Meanwhile, Cherries ran the rule over Fraser Colmer and Sam Magri during a development squad friendly against Portsmouth on Tuesday.

Colmer, 19, is currently on the books at Southampton, while Magri, also 19, joined QPR for a sizeable transfer fee from Portsmouth in August 2012.

Mohamed Coulibaly netted twice on his comeback from a long-term injury in the game, while Aristide Bassele (2) and Harry Cornick were also on target in a 5-0 win for Cherries.

Pinch me, pinch me, Yann would be a very useful addition indeed!

If and I do say if this comes off on top of our other recent signings and Grabbs staying this will be a very successful transfer window. I like the idea of signing a young striker for tommorrow and an experienced one for today, very joined up thinking by the management.

Now W$ggins..shall we/shan't we???

No to Wiggins. Think Daniels is better. Harte played well when he came on anyway, may not get up the pitch as much but his crossing and corners made up for that.
Smith or Ritchie can fill in also so dont understand why we'd want him back

with Kermorgant having returned to Charlton for training today there is a danger if we wait too long we shall end up with no one, which considering the manager has had 4 weeks of the transfer window to move in would be unforgivable, if he using us to gain a bigger increase from Charlton we cannot complain in view of recent events, it will be a white knuckle ride tomorrow

Frustrating, yes. But it depends on what's available at what price and whether Eddie thinks they will fit in. Quite a few considerations, and there's no point bringing in someone just for the sake of it.
.
I wouldn't worry about Kermorgant. The club have agreed the fee. They will have offered the player what they think he's worth. It's up to him. I don't see how the ball is in our court here.

Yann Kermorgant would be a very useful player for us if he signs in this transfer window ??. He is tall enough (over 6ft) and good in the air as well as technically very good with both feet. Apparently according to his many fans on the Charlton websites, he reads the game very well and is their best player.!!! He could be the final part of the jigsaw regarding the strike force to convert chances in the box. He's probably more "Teddy Sheringham than SteveFletcher" in style and has about a goal in every 3 games ratio throughout his career.
If he joins The Cherries it will give EH more attacking options and a "plan B" or maybe even a "plan C" and a choice from 4 definite first choice strikers.

If this happens, I'm not sure where it leaves McCoid (5th striker or wide midfield ??). Also where does Coulibaly fit in as a winger or striker ? ( I see he scored 2 goals for the development squad against Pompey). EH has some difficult selection headaches ahead, I wish him well !!!. UTC.

God help us if we only have Rantie, pitman and Grabban. It does amaze me how all of a sudden people rate Rantie when he has just scored his first home goal after how many matches?
We need a Fletcher type in the box. at the moment we rely on Penalties to win matches and that's just not good enough, apart from how frustrating it is to watch us play cos its beautiful football with lots of posession but little attacking

The only East London Bournemouth supporter here to give everyone a bit of inside information. Since this season I hate to admit I've seen just as much of Charlton and Leyton Orient than Bournemouth!!

Marvin Bartley played well for Leyton Orient whilst on loan. However even if we signed him on a free transfer I don't think he would get many games. He is a good player but maybe not the level we need. I hope Leyton Orient sign him since he fits what they need. (Plus a nice local away game for me next season!)

Yann Kermorgant is a extremely exciting prospect for us. A few weeks ago there was continual supporter speculation wanting/linking with a move for Leon Clarke. On form you would think Clarke a better player but unlike Kermorgant, consistently doesn't score goals at Championship level. Yann Kermorgant will hold up the ball, he creates chances and sometimes does score. His technique would benefit the team, but Eddie Howe no doubt wants to sign a forward whom can win crosses and play through balls. How many times have I seen a cross with Rantie struggling to meet? (He is to short for that!!!) But Ranties pace is incredible, if he lurks out on the wing ... a bit of speed into the box ... thank you mid table finish. :-)

Yann Kermorgant will also give us the option of flooding the midfield against dare I say it better opposition. Does anyone fancy our chances for wins in February. One forward up front to start some passing movements. Sorry for Brett Pitman but I think he had a good chance but might not be able to cut it at Championship level.

Not a chance with Wiggins moving to us. Just signed a contract. Have it on good authority from Charlton mates he dislikes Bournemouth as much as our supporters dislike his return!!! In any case he is ambitious lad whom would seek a bigger club than us or Charlton for his next move. Still an excellent player though.

Why hasn't the echo reported on us signing chelsea's youth captain, Muleba? He turned down a new contract from Chelsea to join our youth set up. He can play anywhere along the back four but has mostly played as centre back. He looks a good prospect being ever present at Chelsea U18 and captain in every game. With him and O'hanlon it is clear to see that Sir Ed is very much building for the future. I hope Roach can work his magic on these 2 lads like he has done with so many of our young players like Ings and Vokes.

Probably because he's no longer up to Championship standard, indicated by a loan at League 1 Leyton Orient. Eddie didn't play him as a consistent first choice when he was manager there.
