AFC Bournemouth: Howe may look to get fringe players out on loan

Bournemouth Echo: BUSY MONTH: Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall BUSY MONTH: Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall

MANAGER Eddie Howe will look to get some of his fringe players out on loan next month and try to bring in some new recruits.

Howe has said former skipper Miles Addison and winger Donal McDermott are both likely to be made available for loan.

Striker Matt Tubbs, who is currently at Rotherham, could be allowed to continue to pursue his career elsewhere with Howe saying his situation will be reviewed.

Addison, signed permanently by Paul Groves in July 2012, is midway through a three-year contract and has not featured for the first team for 13 months.

McDermott, a £175,000 signing from Huddersfield in January 2012, has 18 months to run on his deal and is currently training with the development squad.

Tubbs, who signed for a then club record fee two years ago, was allowed to join Rotherham at the start of the season after playing his part in Cherries’ promotion.

Howe told the Daily Echo: “No player that leaves here is out of mind. We wanted Matt to play and he was keen to play. Unfortunately, he probably hasn’t had the amount of football he wanted and we will review his options and do what is best for his career.

“Miles hasn’t played a lot of football but has been an excellent professional behind the scenes. He has worked really hard, got his head down and had a positive impact with the other players.

“In my eyes, he has been excellent but, for his own career and at the stage and age he is at, we want him to play some football to progress his career.

“Donal is in a similar position and he needs to play every week and needs to get back in the habit of playing competitive first-team football. He is certainly a player with undoubted ability but hasn’t played regularly for a long period of time. We will be very keen to get him some regular football in January.”

Boss Howe says he has identified “two or three key areas” he would like to strengthen during the transfer window and says he has been in regular contact with owner Maxim Demin.

Howe added: “There has been lots of dialogue. We have had regular meetings so we keep him updated as to our thoughts and he keeps us updated as to his thoughts, financially. There has been clear communication.

“Everyone says the January window is a difficult one but we do expect to do some business because I feel we need to. There are two or three key areas we need to improve. Finding the players for the right money and getting everything to fit into place isn’t always easy and that is the challenge.

“We can identify players easily, it is then about getting the deals done and getting them for the right money and making sure they are affordable. That is the difficult part.

“I don’t think we will be bringing in too many and it will be quality over quantity. My philosophy has always been to try to get the right ones rather than taking a short-term fix.”

Sad, but inevitable comments which -as usual with E.H.- are right on the mark.
I've been a McDermott fan throughout his two spells with A.F.C. but you can't get near championship standard if you don't play every week. The main thing is that the higher standard is achieved consistently - as yet not - and maintained. Hence the allusion to transfer targets to assist. Up the Cherries!!

Agree, I think Donal has got something and it is a shame we're not using it! Hope that a loan spell to the right club will put him back in contention again.

By the way whatever happened to Coops1965 has Eddie sent him out on loan, has he gone to Poole Town with EM?
Pre-Xmas greetings Coops if you're out there!

Here's Tubbs stats for div 1 Rotherham, Appearances (as sub): 20 (10) Goals 1, Shots On target 6, Yellow cards: 2 . He's got more yellow card than goals. Who would want him on loan or even buy him. To think he was bought for a record fee and presumably record wages. More fall out from from the Mitchell family and dumb & dumber .

Can't blame Dumb & Dumber for the Tubbs signing, im afraid that particular accolade belongs to Mr Bradbury and our acclaimed D.O.F Tom (thumb) Mitchell

Hmm, not sure where Kevin lives but he said on talksport this morning that he wants to cut down on travelling, so wants a club nearer home. Maybe he might like to retire on the south coast when his playing days finally come to an end. Im pretty sure he would like to finish his career at Watford though.!!!

All these and more need off loading. Trouble is no one else wants them either.
.
As has been said on here, we are too predictable. When we had Fletch, we had a plan B. In fact he was at one time plan A. Who was the first player Eddie got in when we were heading for the Conference ?
.
Its all very well signing players for the future. We need to safeguard the future in the Championship, so we do need a quick fix.
.
We play with a left footed right winger and a right footed left winger, cutting inside, which is OK for our style. But we need plan B when that's not working (which is quite often). We need a big man to bring on, switch the wingers and get behind the defence. This kind of ability to change a game is what we are lacking. We have no different options on the bench. It's just more of the same.

We need to offload some of the dead wood altogether, not loan them out. Get them off the wage bill altogether.

They're going out on loan because they're all on long contracts. Good idea to get them off the wage bill - but not if you have to pay them large amounts of compensation. If only life was that simple !!

He (Coops1965) is far too valuable to our team here on this site so he cannot or must not go out on loan. I could name at least three other poster that I would not only send them on loan but would get rid of and tie their hands behind their backs so they could not use a keyboard!!!

Must admit if I were in that position, good money for doing next to nothing each week, I would want to stay put too. It will show those who really want to pursue/progress their careers when January comes and some reject loan moves.

Matty Tubbs is an out and out Striker.Yes he has not performed well at Rotherham .
But get him back here with a Manager like Harry Redknap. A POSITIVE THINKER.( Alan Curbishly ) .Then we can all have a Happy New YEAR.

We could award 3 points for mega positive posts, 2 points for the positive ones, 1 point for the average posts and minus 3 for the negative posts. At the end of the season we would add up the points and see who would get promoted and who would be relegated and would go into the play-offs!!!!

Bloody hell are you Vincent Tan in disguise???

For one thing Tubbs has proven he can't perform even in League One! So maybe you should be including him in you're list of players whom can't cut it in Championship but unwilling to name, but name Pitman?

Odd list by the way.

You're right in one respect that our squad is extremely good but are not clinical enough at this level. And maybe a quality addition could improve the overall performance. The next three games is a brilliant opportunity for the squad to fight for their first team places.

Frankly I'm happy with Eddie Howe. There is no other manager out there whom I would trust at the helm. Our first season in this level for over twenty years has as expected been a bit rough. But we're not doing that badly at all.

P.S. Alan Curbishly? Harry Redknapp? If you want to link managers to our club could you be slightly more realistic? OOO Lets get Gary Megson!!!! HAHAHAHAAH

Just a "stirrer" who spouts nonsense to wind supporters up, no point at all in taking any notice of him.

Don't forget to ship out fringe players Partington, Pitman, Thomas, Mcquoid, and Hughes as well. We should then be able to bring in a couple of Championship quality recruits.

If only, wolves are interested apparantly and as he has played for all the other midlands clubs he obviously likes it up there!!!
We saw him at a services on the way home from Tranmere last season, asked him about rumours of joining us but he said Bournemouth was too far away from his kids, seemed pretty genuine but you never know? Really nice bloke as well

Always comes across as a nice bloke on TV, I remember the game at Dean Court when Watford beat us ( on pens I think ) he was celebrating on the pitch and the police thought he was a fan and gave him a good old whack with a truncheon!!!!

Cromwell ....... you are supposed to be a Roundhead , however your piece suggests that you could be a ....head ! You are right , of course , about the standard of some players but Eddie knows this and will deal with it in January .
Have you noticed how clubs replace their sacked manager , with a er um manager sacked by someone else !

I've been a McDermott fan throughout his two spells with A.F.C. but you can't get near championship standard if you don't play every week. The main thing is that the higher standard is achieved consistently - as yet not - and maintained. Hence the allusion to transfer targets to assist. Up the Cherries!!
I think Donal must have a few problems, other than the one that made the news. Why else would he be training with the development squad?
We need to offload some of the dead wood altogether, not loan them out. Get them off the wage bill altogether.
Isn't it a drink problem?
