UNBEATEN Corfe Mullen United under-11s booked their place in the last four of the Bournemouth YFL Cup with a hard-earned 4-3 home win over second-tier leaders Moordown Athletic.

The hosts, who have won all seven of their top-flight matches this season, were behind on three separate occasions before snatch-ing victory in the final few minutes with a well-taken Sam Pollard goal.

Moordown began the game in determined fashion and took an early lead through a Toby Pain strike, following good play down the left flank.

Corfe Mullen, however, were quick to respond with a half volley from Charlie Butcher, levelling the scores.

In a topsy-turvy quarter-final, Moordown restored their slender advantage with a neat finish from Jay Carter.

But Corfe Mullen made it 2-2 at the interval when Alfie Elliott headed home from a corner.

Moordown took the advantage once again after the interval when Pain scored his second goal of the game.

A cup upset remained on the cards until Lewis McMurdo grabbed Corfe Mullen’s third goal, knocking in a rebound after Moordown goalkeeper Benjamin Rodwell parried his first attempt. The remaining minutes provided a close, frantic finish before a long ball fell to Pollard whose fine strike gave Corfe the victory.

The win sealed Corfe Mullen’s place in the semi-finals where they will play either Mudeford Swans, Parley or Burton.

“Overall I felt we were unlucky to lose the match, but credit to Corfe for battling back each time we took the lead,” said Moordown manager Garry Blackford.

“I am very proud of my team’s performance. They showed commitment, skill and a great team spirit.”

Corfe Mullen boss Brian McMurdo added: “The final few minutes were very close. The difference between the sides was a sweet shot from Sam which thundered into the net to give us the lead for the first time in the match.”
