PIRATES star Darcy Ward will be hoping to continue his quest for a top-eight place when the world championships resume in Latvia tomorrow.

Ward is 16 points adrift of new Poole recruit Greg Hancock, who currently occupies the final automatic qualification berth ahead of the Grand Prix in Daugavpils.

The Aussie ace has been drawn in a mouth-watering second heat against title hopefuls Emil Sayfutdinov, Jaroslaw Hampel and Nicki Pedersen.

Russian star Sayfutdinov is five points clear at the summit with third-placed Hampel only two ahead of Pedersen who is breathing down the necks of the leaders.

Second-placed Tai Woffinden will face-off against podium-pushers Hancock, Pedersen and Matej Zagar in heat 19.

Hancock – a two-time winner in Daugavpils and the only current GP rider with a win in Latvia to his name – opens against Freddie Lindgren, Andreas Jonsson and Martin Vaculik in heat four.
