EUNAN O’Kane insists the prospect of facing big-name opposition in the League Cup holds no fears for Cherries.

The talented midfielder fired Cherries to a 1-0 victory over south coast rivals Portsmouth in the first round at Dean Court on Tuesday night.

O’Kane netted the only goal of the game with a composed finish in the 53rd minute of the south coast showdown.

That meant Cherries successfully negotiated the first hurdle of the knockout competition for only the second time in eight years.

Premier League clubs come into the draw for round two, although teams competing in Europe do not enter until the next stage.

And O’Kane is hopeful that Cherries can progress again, regardless of which side they face.

Speaking ahead of today’s draw, scheduled to take place at 1.30pm on Sky Sports News, O’Kane told the Daily Echo: “I don’t think we fear anyone who is in it.

“Whoever we get drawn against, we will give a good account of ourselves and, hopefully, be able to progress again.”

Discussing his strike against Pompey, O’Kane added: “I was just in the right place at the right time.

“Hughesie (Richard Hughes) gave us that little bit of security so that both me and Drew (Andrew Surman) could gamble and get in the box.

“Thankfully, the ball dropped to me and I was able to hit the net.”

Matches in the League Cup second round are set to be held during the week commencing August 26.
