PROLIFIC run-scorer Ian Booth registered his 18th century for Swanage in a convincing victory for the Division One title contenders against Ferndown Wayfarers at Day’s Park.

Swans are top of the Dorset Sunday top flight after registering their fourth win of the campaign with the 117-run hammering of Wayfarers.

The hosts batted first and got off to a solid start through Booth and Ben Baczala (21). Booth was also well supported by Dan White and Ashley King who made 26 and 28, respectively.

However, the innings was built around Booth’s majestic 109 not out. His fine knock included no fewer than 13 boundaries, which enabled Swans to post a competitive score of 202 for five.

That proved too much for Ferndown who were soon in trouble after excellent opening spells from Baczala brothers Ben and Elliott.

The pressure was maintained by Mike Hernandez and Jem Warner as the bowlers shared the wickets to dismiss Wayfarers for just 85.

In the only other top-flight match to go ahead, Corfe Mullen’s batting collapse led to a seven-wicket defeat at St Georges.

Openers Peter Hoar (36) and Nick James (20) got the visitors off to a reasonable start but when Michael Jordan went for a duck moments after James’s dismissal, top scorer Sam Mills (52) was left to carry the fight as the lower order offered little resistance and all fell for single figures.

Sam Goodhew (3-22) was the top St Georges bowler and, despite a woeful start which saw the hosts on just eight for two, Goodhew (46*) and Dave Griffiths (67) secured a comfortable victory.

Winton’s match with Fovant and Cranborne’s fixture against Shillingstone were both cancelled.
