CHERRIES’ striking options could be set for a shake-up after the club confirmed a desire to re-sign Danny Ings – and Crawley Town declared an interest in Matt Tubbs.

Chairman Eddie Mitchell today told the Daily Echo that Burnley had rejected a Cherries bid for ex-Dean Court frontman Ings.

Mitchell revealed that Cherries had tested the Clarets’ resolve by tabling a written offer to bring Ings back to the club where he began his professional career.

But the Cherries chief, who declined to reveal the details of the bid, said the Turf Moor outfit had turned down the approach from their new Championship rivals.

And while Burnley are reportedly braced for renewed Cherries interest, speculation about one of Eddie Howe’s existing frontmen, Tubbs, took another twist.

Crawley chief executive Richard Low and manager Richie Barker both went public to discuss the viability of the Reds sealing a deal for Tubbs.

While Barker suggested money could prove a major stumbling block to any transfer, he did say the 28-year-old Crawley legend was on his “long list” of potential recruits.

Barker told the Crawley Observer: “Yes, there is a chance, but it is only a very slim chance. Sometimes, players favour a certain club and Matt Tubbs certainly played his best football for us so, for that reason, he is somebody we would consider.”

Low added: “We have had discussions about Matt and, reading between the lines, he probably doesn’t figure in Bournemouth’s plans next season. Matt is a hero with the fans here so it would be good to get him back if it was possible, but it there is some way to go yet.”

Tubbs, who is also understood to be attracting interest from both Rotherham and Oxford United, scored 58 goals in 78 games for Crawley before joining Cherries for a club-record fee.

But while the Verwood-raised forward admitted this week he was unsure about his future, chairman Mitchell tonight confirmed Cherries had yet to receive any bids for any squad members.

Cherries have also yet to see any incoming activity but after being linked with a host of players, Ings yesterday appeared on the radar.

A product of the Cherries youth system, he joined the Clarets in August 2011 when then Burnley boss Howe took him to Turf Moor.

Ings, who netted seven goals in 28 Cherries appearances, has scored six times in 25 starts and 23 substitute appearances during an injury-hit spell with the Clarets, who are reported to have paid a fee rising to £1million for his services.

Meanwhile, Dutch club Roda JC are believed to be interested in securing a permanent deal for Frank Demouge after taking the striker on loan last season. Demouge has one year remaining on his contract.
