MANAGER Tom Killick believes Poole Town's current squad could need just two new recruits in order to mount a Premier Division challenge.

The Dolphins boss is eyeing “two or three” summer signings as he bids to retain the players who have helped the club to title and promotion glory.

Poole completed their Division One South & West championship-winning campaign with a 1-0 victory at Cirencester Town on Saturday.

Steve Devlin got the goal which saw Dolphins finish the season on 98 points - a massive 14 clear of their nearest rivals.

Gosport Borough, who pipped Poole to promotion last term, have reached the Southern Premier play-offs at the first time of asking.

And Killick is confident his team will only need minimal bolstering to be able to emulate Boro's success when they step up to the next level.

He told the Daily Echo: “I want to try to retain all of the existing group and add two or three players. Hopefully, then we can be competitive in the league above.

“I want us to look at what Gosport Borough have done and I would like to think we could challenge at the top end of the division.

“If we could bring in two or three players who are proven at that level and keep what we have already got, it would give us some impetus.

“Then, I think that would be enough to be competitive at the top end of that league.

“The next challenge is to try to retain everyone and get the right people in. I am sure with the season we have had, some of our players will be in demand.”

Poole completed a highly successful 2012-13 campaign, during which they also won the Dorset Senior Cup, by defeating Cirencester.

Killick added: “It wasn't just winning the title, it was the manner in which we did it. It ended up being quite comprehensive in terms of the margin and that speaks volumes for the quality of the players.”

Having claimed the crown, Dolphins face one final fixture when they visit Division One Central victors Burnham in the Southern League 'Championship Match' on Saturday.

Dolphins: Hutchings, Clarke, Spetch, Walker, Burbidge, Preston, Kelly, Brooks (Dibba, 80), Devlin, Byerley (S Brown, 60), Cann (Preston, 60). Unused subs: Richardson, Charles.
