RINGWOOD racer Scott Newham dusted himself down to take the overall rookies prize at Waterston Ridge, near Dorchester.

The 15-year-old youth star had won the first two races at full throttle before taking a tumble in the third and final contest.

Despite finishing fifth, Newham had done enough to hold off the challenge of runner-up James Skidmore from Somerset.

Almost 160 competitors took part in the Ringwood Motocross Club’s third round of its championship series.

The meeting also counted towards the MCF Grand Slam Qualifiers and the 2013 All South Coast Auto 50cc and Youth Challenge.

Brother and sister duo Joe Leyland and Molly Shutler stole the show in the opening Junior 65cc competition.

Leyland was just unstoppable and won all three race wins, while Molly snatched the runners-up spot and girl-racer-of-the-day award.

The 2012 Auto Class Champion Shea Wylie secured the final podium place with three impressive third places.

Thomas Shutler added to the family’s success by winning overall position in the fast and furious Big-wheel 85cc class.

Reigning South Coast champion Mitchell Pocklington the Automatic 50cc contest which attracted more than 30 riders.

The Ringwood club’s next meeting is at Swanmore, near Corhampton in Hampshire on Sunday.
