LEAGUE and cup holders Highcliffe Hawks are on course for a repeat double after lifting the under-16 town trophy.

Second-half goals from Joshua Bertie and Cameron Roach, son of former Cherries coach Joe, saw off a resolute challenge from Redhill Rangers.

Bertie turned his opponent before despatching a shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net to break the deadlock 10 minutes after the break, while Roach scored with an unstoppable volley.

“It was a game of two different styles,” said Hawks boss Ron Bertie. “Redhill were well organised and came with a game plan in a 4-5-1 formation compared to our 4-3-3.

“Although we weren’t at our best, we managed to maintain our passing game.”

Redhill assistant manager Nigel Hawkins said: “We are very proud of the team who battled hard until the final whistle.

“Their never say die attitude and team spirit is a testament to them all.”

Highcliffe only need to win two of their remaining six league matches to win the championship for a second successive season.

They also reached the last four of the Hampshire Cup before bowing out 1-0 to US Portsmouth.
