BOSS Steve Cuss felt Wimborne Town deserved more from their 1-0 defeat to Evesham United as Magpies failed to score for a third league match in a row.

Leigh Downing’s strike after half an hour settled a match played in poor conditions at Cuthbury, but manager Cuss was left to rue missed chances after the interval with George Webb and Jamie Davidson spurning presentable openings before Shaun Brian was denied by Evesham custodian Ben McNamara.

Cuss told the Daily Echo: “It turned out to be a bit of a strange game as the conditions dictated the play. We had to defend in the first half and they had to defend in the second.

"We probably did enough to deserve something out of the game but they got the all-important goal. I was pleased with the second-half performance but we were just disappointed not to find a goal.”

Magpies: Ackerman, Arnold, Maybury (Cole, 80), Costello, Brian, Hubbard, Blake, Webb (Peprah-Annan, 70), Sainsbury (Smith, 55), Davidson, Kemble. Unused subs: Gill, Roast.

  • Bashley’s Southern Premier fixture against Redditch United was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and has been rearranged for Thursday.

In the Wessex League, Christchurch, Verwood and Bournemouth Poppies all saw away matches at Alton, Hayling United and Fareham Town fall foul of the weather.
