EIGHT-year-old Oscar Murray from Poole has claimed a podium place in only in his first full season of racing.

Oscar finished third at the All South Coast Auto 50cc Challenge, hosted by the Ringwood Motocross Club (MCF) at Piddlehinton.

And following in Oscar’s family tracks is six-year-old brother Jasper who finished in 16th place overall.

Highlight for Oscar was a second-place finish in the third and final race of the Automatic 50 class which attracted 26 junior riders.

Winner was Harvey Cashmoor with maximum points, while Mitchell Pockington pipped Oscar to the overall runners-up place.

More than 100 riders braved the bitterly cold wind on a day where vital Championship and MCFederation Grand Slam Qualifier points were up for grabs.

The Rookies class stormed out of the gates to open up the second round meeting on the fast-flowing and, at times, technical track.

Tom Gathercole powered his way cross the finish line to win race one followed by Scott Newham and Ryan Watts.

Newham never gave an inch in the second leg and after a terrific pass spoilt Gathercole’s momentum to take the victory.

Newham again followed home in second in the final behind Gathercole, while Watts rode three consistent motos to claim overall third.

Maximum man in the big-wheel 85 class was Harry Pritchard who stormed to all three race wins followed home each time by Sam Lycett from Weymouth.

Bradley Wilson, from Hayling Island, won all three races to seal the small-wheel 85 class laurels.

Harrison Waite blasted in two well-earned second places before 2012 junior champion Caleb Stone followed Wilson home in the final contest.
