OFFICIALS from feuding Dorset rivals Poole and Wimborne have opened old wounds after trading comments in a spat on social network site Twitter.

The online exchange – between club directors Paul Miller and Mark Bumford – was sparked by the postponement of Poole’s Southern League clash against Swindon Supermarine on Tuesday.

According to a post on Poole’s official Twitter feed, the game was called off as the pitch at their Tatnam headquarters had been deemed by a local referee as “unsafe” and “unfit”.

Wimborne vice-chairman Miller, who is also on the Southern League board of directors, responded to news of the postponement by sending a Tweet to Poole Town which read “Cuthbury is perfect for football tonight…#rent”.

Bumford, who co-ordinates Poole’s official Twitter feed in his capacity as commercial director at the club, replied to Miller by posting “you should pay us to play there Paul”.

And Miller had the final say in the exchange, with his riposte to Bumford reading “could you find the way? #mighthavetobeanoption #werenotcheap”.

Bumford also responded to a Tweet from Nick Hutchings after the Poole goalkeeper had expressed his frustration at the fixture biting the dust.

Hutchings’s post was subsequently deleted.

However, Bumford’s reply is still on the social network site and reads “Perhaps you should have been down there at 6.30am on Sat and seen the efforts made to get the pitch playable & again today”.

The latest war of words came just a few weeks after Wimborne manager Steve Cuss had called for a truce between the clubs – and just several days before they lock horns in the final of the Dorset Senior Cup.

Only last month, Wimborne were accused by Poole of being “disrespectful” after an intended prank, mocking stricken Dolphins midfielder Glenn Howes, had backfired on the Magpies.

And this came just a couple of months after Poole boss Tom Killick had fanned the flames by publicly stating that no Wimborne player would improve his team line-up.

Wimborne will meet Poole in the first Dorset Senior Cup final between the clubs at the County Ground, Hamworthy on Tuesday, April 9.

Poole, meanwhile, are hoping for better fortunes tomorrow night with Division One South & West strugglers Winchester City visiting Tatnam (7.45pm). The clash is subject to a 1.30pm pitch inspection.
