EXPERIENCED campaigner Kevin Gill could be ready to hand Wimborne Town a timely boost by declaring himself fit for the busy Easter programme.

Gill, who starred for the Magpies during the first half of the season, has been sidelined for five weeks since suffering knee ligament damage in training.

The versatile 29-year-old hit the comeback trail and made a goalscoring return in Wimborne’s Wyvern League victory over Bemerton Heath Harlequins at the weekend.

Gill impressed against the Wiltshire outfit at Cuthbury, his goal and performance in a 5-2 victory giving boss Steve Cuss food for thought.

Magpies visit Southern League rivals Cinderford Town on Saturday before hosting Division One South & West strugglers Winchester City at Cuthbury on Easter Monday (both 3pm).

Wimborne boss Cuss said: “Kevin picked up a nasty knee injury and suffered a bit of ligament damage. We have a busy weekend coming up and it would be a boost for us if he is fit for both games.”

Currently in 10th position in the table, Wimborne’s scheduled trip to Sholing at the weekend was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Cuss’s men chalked up an impressive 5-1 win over play-off chasing Yate Town in the last game on March 16.

Meanwhile, the eagerly-awaited Dorset Senior Cup final between Wimborne and arch rivals Poole Town will take place at the County Ground, Hamworthy on Tuesday, April 9 (7.45pm).

  • Poole Town’s Southern League clash against Division One South & West rivals Swindon Supermarine, scheduled for Tatnam last night, was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

The Dolphins, whose past three fixtures have bitten the dust due to the weather, will be hoping for better fortunes when Winchester City visit Tatnam tomorrow (7.45pm).

  • Midfielder Nathan Saxby and striker Jake Lovell both face late fitness tests ahead of Verwood’s Wessex Premier encounter with Hayling United tonight.

Victory for 16th-placed Potters at Potterne Park would see them take another step towards securing a mid-table finish in their first season in the top flight (7.45pm).

Potters: (from) Lynch, Evans, Oldring, Kelly, J Long, R Long, Gajic, Webb, Dyer, Haskell, Hill, Dear, O’Sullivan, Murray.

  • Relegation-haunted New Milton will be in desperate need of victory when they travel to Totton & Eling Little Testwood Farm (7.45pm).
