CHERRIES youth team coach Ross Embleton has become the latest victim of the Dean Court job cuts.

Embleton, who was taken on when Paul Groves and Shaun Brooks were appointed permanently as Cherries’ first-team management duo in the summer, was relieved of his post yesterday.

He is understood to have been made redundant by the club with another youth coach, whose identity is known by the Daily Echo but not confirmed, believed to have suffered a similar fate.

The Echo was last night unable to contact Cherries chairman Eddie Mitchell, while Embleton took to social network site Twitter to announce his exit.

He wrote: "Many thanks to the people that sent me messages. The rumours are true but, as I’m sure you realise, I wouldn’t make any comments on what has happened.

"I would like to thank the boys who I have coached and also certain staff at AFCB for helping me during my short period at the club.

"I hope for them (you’ll know who you are) that promotion comes at the end of the season. Brilliant card by the way!

"Not forgetting to acknowledge the support and comments of those players that I spoke to yesterday. All the best!"

Londoner Embleton uprooted his young family and moved to Bournemouth after apparently being head-hunted by Brooks having worked previously on the academy at Premier League Tottenham.

The 31-year-old, who also had a spell at Leyton Orient, initially worked alongside head of youth John Donoghue at Dean Court, the pair filling the posts vacated after Groves and Brooks had stepped up to the first team.

However, following their disastrous 12-game tenure at the helm, Groves and Brooks were removed from their respective jobs in October – and subsequently offered roles back in the youth set up.

Speaking to the Daily Echo at the time, Mitchell said the club had “no intention to relieve anybody in the youth department of their position”.

Groves and Brooks joined Donoghue and Embleton in the youth ranks just days before Eddie Howe had been re-appointed as manager with an apparent reshuffle taking place in January.

News of the changes were published in the directory section of the matchday programme with Donoghue no longer listed as head of youth and understood to have parted company with the club. His title was taken by Brooks while Groves became youth team manager and head of coaching and Embleton lead youth team coach and professional development coach.

Earlier this week, chairman Mitchell described as “restructuring” the club’s decision to shed a number of positions, with seven employees understood to have been made redundant on Monday.

Although Mitchell declined to reveal the number of job losses, long-serving club photographer and programme editor Mick Cunningham and commercial executive Tom Jeffes were among them.

It is understood further cuts were made in commercial, accounts, ground staff, Black Label Events and Hot Radio. And unsubstantiated reports suggest at least one other club employee may have been made redundant yesterday.
