Cherries: Thomas completes Birmingham loan move (updated)

UNSETTLED Cherries striker Wes Thomas has tonight completed a loan move to Birmingham City.

The two clubs have, in the past few minutes, confirmed that the frontman has finalised a switch to the Championship outfit until the end of the season.

That development came after the Daily Echo had this afternoon exclusively revealed news of Birmingham's interest in the 26-year-old Londoner.

Thomas had been consistently linked with a move away from Dean Court throughout the January transfer window.

A host of Championship clubs were rumoured to have showed an interest in Thomas with Burnley, Huddersfield, Derby and Watford thought to have been among the potential suitors.

They had been alerted by the former Crawley man's form during productive loan spells with Portsmouth and Blackpool this season.

Thomas returned to Cherries in January after netting three times in nine appearances for the Tangerines.

He made his first appearance for the Dorset club for more than two months when he came off the bench in the 1-1 draw with Swindon three weeks ago.

Eddie Howe then handed Thomas a start - his first for Cherries since August - in the FA Cup third round replay defeat at the hands of Wigan Athletic.

But he was understood to have been keen on a move away and put pen to paper with Birmingham after the Blues today jumped to the front of the queue.

Signed from Crawley Town 12 months ago, Thomas scored 10 goals in his first 20 games for Cherries.

But he failed to maintain that impressive record and fell down the pecking order under Paul Groves.

Shame for all concerned it`s not a sale...for the life of me I cannot understand his attraction to so many clubs BUT do hope he succeeds .....so we can get at least our outlay back.Good bye "barn door".

I hope Birmingham give him an eye test and buy him some new boots and ask the FA to put a bell in the ball.

And we dont want him back his attitude sucks and spoils the whole team.

And Wes you are not very good in league one so stop thinking you are championship material.

Now for Tubbs and Ritchie onwards and upwards

With you on that one. What do these championship sides see in him? Leads the line well with power and pace but no end product and clearly a sulker. Shame it's not permanent but hopefully he'll find some form from somewhere and push the price up.

Best he goes to his nearest John Lewis to find a nice comfortable cushion(insulated for when it`s cold)so he don`t get too sore a bottom sitting on the bench

After Cameron Jerome (gone Stoke), he sounds like his strike rate is not too
bad. One in three is a good return.

Maybe you should have made a bid for Robin Van Persie?

Well not Birmingham they are quite bust to say the least.

He is a good player and will score a few in the Championship but doubt he would have forced his way into our team. He doesn't offer much else other than scoring occasional goals.

TBH, I think most of you are being little harsh on Wes, who probably reads these comments. He did OK for us up until this season and certainly impressed Michael Appleton and the Pompey fans. I believe he has the talent, but just was one of those exceptions that didn't benefit from Eddie and Jason's tutorledge. I certainly wish him all the best at Birmingham. However, it is a little unfortunate for us that he was loaned rather than sold as these circumstances rarely lead to much of a fee, even when the loan goes exceedingly well, when goodwill seems to be the overridding sentiment rather than economics.

Very glad Tho-miss has left the club and I hope he never comes back. He's a negative influence and a stroppy non performer who's been whining about needing to play for a manager who believes in him. Well EH gave you the chance to prove yourself and you were rubbish. Birmingham are welcome to you. Oh and we'll be passing you come May. Championship for us, League One for you.

Good luck wes. It was unfortunate that wes Thomas signed for the sherries when there was a wage cap. He could of knuckled down and renegotiated if his form picked up. But he chose to not to perform as best as he could, beacause he had the hump over not getting as much as all the other strikers. I think he is a good player and good luck to him.
