DAVID Dunn is confident the capture of pace ace Jaryd Robinson will finally give Lions the finishing prowess to prosper in National Two South.

The Bournemouth director of rugby expressed his delight after completing the signing of the highly-rated Isle of Wight-based wing.

Robinson is renowned for his speed on the sevens circuit having represented Apache and also come close to England Sevens honours.

The former Worthing and Havant man will be tasked with boosting a Lions team which has the third lowest points total in their division.

Bournemouth have struggled to emulate their prolific form of last season since the exit of Karim Lynch (travelling) and Robbie Searle (Tottonians).

In the absence of that attacking duo, Dunn’s men have registered just three try-scoring bonus points since promotion to English rugby’s fourth tier.

But the Chapel Gate chief is hopeful that Robinson’s arrival will provide a timely boost to his side.

Dunn told the Daily Echo: “He is on the fringes of the England Sevens squad and couldn’t sign for us until he found out if he had been offered an England Sevens contract. That hasn’t happened for him this season.

“He is a young lad and he is a prolific scorer.

“Our backs coach Dan Connolly is an experienced sevens coach and player. He has played elite sevens for Apache and Jaryd has been playing for them on the sevens circuit.

“Rumour has it he is quicker than Dan Norton, the England Sevens star.”

Robinson was forced to wait for his Lions debut as the scheduled home clash with Dings Crusaders on Saturday failed to beat the wet weather.

Dunn added: “He has come in as a winger and will give us something that we haven’t had.

“We are aware that we haven’t had out-and-out finishers on the wing and we are hopeful that this signing will go a long way to putting that right.”

Lions’ match against Dings is now due to be played on March 16 at Chapel Gate.
