POOLE Town boss Tom Killick is keen to quickly resolve the future of star striker Warren Byerley but admits it is a “delicate situation”.

In an interview with the Daily Echo this week, the prolific frontman hinted that he could be prepared to stay with the Tatnam outfit.

Byerley, 27, signed for Dorchester Town on a non-contract basis in November before immediately joining the Dolphins on dual registration.

The ex-Hamworthy United man, who has hit eight goals in nine Southern League games for Poole, is free to decide where he wishes to play.

Killick rates Byerley highly but does not want to be disrespectful towards Dorchester after Magpies boss Phil Simkin paved the way for Byerley’s initial switch to Poole.

Both Simkin and Killick are now likely to try to persuade Byerley to commit himself.

Killick told the Daily Echo: “It is a slightly delicate situation for us because Dorchester were good enough to let us take him.

“But having said that, he has been a real revelation for us and, on the face of it, he appears quite keen to stay. We need to see if we can work out something but, at the moment, I am unsure what will happen.

“Ultimately, as a non-contract player, it is Warren’s decision, but we have to be respectful of the fact Dorchester were good enough to let him come here. We are trying to sort out something to address it this week.”

Byerley, who is doubtful for Poole’s away clash with Paulton Rovers tomorrow (3pm), said in Monday’s Echo: “I spoke to Phil over the weekend and I need to speak with Tom Killick this week. Phil wants me to go back but I am going to leave things as they are over the next couple of weeks.

“I can’t say for sure what I will do yet because it would be disrespectful to other people involved, but I think the main thing in football is to be happy and I am very happy at Poole.

“You should always have a good think before moving if you are happy somewhere.

“I’ve already had a couple of clubs this season and it is nice to feel settled.”

Poole will be hoping Byerley (ankle) and Sam Clarke (groin) can overcome injuries in time to face Paulton, while Killick is also close to completing a loan signing ahead of the Division One South & West showdown.

Dolphins, who have lost just once in their past 11 league matches, are two points behind leaders Hungerford with four games in hand.

Keith Emmerson is likely to miss out due to a knock but star winger Carl Preston is set to return.
