TEAM boss Mark Sturney says the standard of Wimborne’s new coaching set-up has been the secret to their success this season.

The Minstermen are hoping to add Southern Counties South glory to their Dorset & Wilts Cup crown by continuing their winning streak.

Wimborne have registered 13 successive victories in all competitions on their way to building a formidable record in both cup and league action.

Fresh from reaching the Southern Counties Intermediate Cup final, the Dorset outfit will bid to carry on their title push at Frome tomorrow.

High-flying Wimborne, who have lost just twice in the league this term, are in third spot with two games in hand on the leading two clubs.

Manager Sturney last night hailed the impact made on the team by coaches Jim Kelly, Richard Barnes and Giles Hewson.

Sturney told the Daily Echo: “We have changed the coaching and brought in some more experienced coaches from outside of the club, which has helped to gel everything. We have managed to better our standard of coaching and mix things up and bring in fresh ideas.

“The players have bought into it and, clearly, what we are doing in training is being put into the games.”

Sturney is now hoping Wimborne can keep their title charge firmly on track.

He added: “We want to win as much as we can. We have 13 consecutive victories now and want to keep that going.

“Because of the success, we have got continuity of selection, which makes my life a lot easier.

“The players want to play rather than making excuses for dropping out. It is always easier to get guys available when you are on a winning streak.”

  • Bournemouth are likely to come in for a tough examination when they entertain National Two South big guns Redruth at Chapel Gate (2.30pm).

Fourth-placed Redruth just got the better of Lions when they hosted David Dunn’s men in September, edging to an 18-13 victory.

Ben Stewart and Eddie Edwards are set to return for Bournemouth but Ben Stevenson and Luke Andrews are still struggling to overcome a virus.

  • South West One East basement boys Swanage & Wareham need to turn the tide in their bid to dodge the drop. Swans host third-placed Reading.

Elsewhere, Oakmeadians host Southern Counties South rivals Weymouth and, in London Three South West, Ellingham & Ringwood make the trip to face Old Blues.
