FORMER Dean Court loan man Frank Simek insists Carlisle United have a burning desire to put right their Cherries horror show in today’s FA Cup clash.

Defender Simek says only an improved display from the Cumbrians at Brunton Park will convince the home faithful that Greg Abbott’s team are turning the corner.

Simek and his defensive colleagues got back to form on the road at Yeovil last weekend after a poor autumn which has included a 4-2 home beating by League One rivals Cherries on October 27.

Speaking ahead of this afternoon’s second round tie (3pm), Simek told the News and Star: “Bournemouth are a good team but we didn’t do ourselves justice at all in the league game.

“We have to put that right. We owe that to the fans. They turned out in good numbers at Yeovil and now we owe it to them to put in a performance and most importantly get a positive result at home.

“We haven’t performed anywhere near what we are capable of at home. I think there is a point to prove.”

USA international right-back Simek continued: “Bournemouth have a good manager and are on a good run but that doesn’t mean we can’t beat them.

“If we make sure we are on our game, we are a match for them, that’s for sure.”

On his eight-game loan stint under Sean O’Driscoll at Dean Court in 2005, he added: “That was my second loan spell out (from Arsenal) and it benefited me quite a bit.

“It helped me get accustomed to the professional football world by playing games that actually mattered.”
