TEAM boss Mark Sturney is bullish about Wimborne’s prospects as they bid to end a 20-year search for Dorset & Wilts Cup glory.
The in-form Minstermen face league rivals Weymouth at Swanage & Wareham’s Bestwall ground in the county showpiece tomorrow (2pm).
Wimborne have not landed the silverware for 20 years but go into the clash as big favourites to claim the trophy – with Weymouth coach Paul Harding labelling his own team “massive underdogs”.
Sturney’s men are flying high in third position in Southern Coun-ties South, comfortably ahead of seventh-placed Weymouth.
Boss Sturney told the Daily Echo: “We have got a stable side and have continuity in our team selection. We have a lot of confidence on the back of nine consecutive victories.
“Two of my players have given up their international tickets for England against New Zealand at Twickenham and it is good for the team to have them available.”
Harding told the Dorset Echo: “They are riding high towards the top of the league and it is another step up for us but we have a decent side too.”
Wimborne booked their place in the final earlier this month thanks to a virtuoso display from Tom Moysey. He completed a 17-point full house with a try, three conversions, a penalty and a drop goal in a 42-20 win over Devizes.
Wimborne: Unwin, Hunt, R Brokenshire, Best, Napier, King, Murphy, Foley, Llewellyn, Moysey, J Brokenshire, Tarbard, Brown, Maidment, Tryska. Subs: Tinsdale, Atkins, Warwick, Hopkins, Priest, Walter, Maltman.
