BOURNEMOUTH Electric under-14s charged into their first cup semi-final, thanks to a golden 10-minute spell that reaped five goals.

With the scores level shortly after the interval, Electric netted through Luke Walters, Fintan O’Kane, Spencer Hopkins, Callum Read and hat-trick hero Mathew Lock, who took his season’s tally to 20.

Electric had started the game brightly taking a 2-0 lead with goals from Lock before Sam Shepherd reduced the deficit.

Shepherd’s second goal levelled the scores, before the Electric goal deluge on a rain-drenched pitch at Chapel Gate.

“This is the first time we’ve reached the last four in any cup competition,” explained Electric manager John Hopkins.

“The game was played in tough conditions and at one point it could have gone either way.

“We’ve done really well this season and are in the last 16 of the Hampshire Cup as well.”

Electric’s only silverware to date is two Division Two titles.

“At under-12s we won 23 of our 24 games to win promotion and have consolidated our place in the top flight by finishing fifth last season,” added Hopkins.

Electric travel to the Isle of Wight over next few weeks for their Hampshire Cup tie against Binstead.
