TRAFFIC came to a standstill along the A338 Spur Road on Sunday afternoon due to a crash involving a motorbike and two vans.

A call was made to police at 12.21pm with reports of the incident located northbound between Blackwater Junction and Ashley Heath Roundabout, which saw traffic diverted off the busy main road while emergency services were on the scene.

Motorists were reported to be moving slowly in their vehicles along Matchams Lane and through West Parley as a result of the road closure.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police confirmed that ambulance staff also attended and treated the rider of the motorbike for minor injuries. Fire crews were also called to visit the scene to clear any oil spillages on the road, before it was fully re-opened just before 2.50pm.

On Sunday night a full-road closure was in place along the A338 Spur Road from 8pm to 6am to allow workmen to change the road layout.

This was to allow a contraflow system to be put in place, meaning that all vehicles heading in both directions will use the southbound carriageway from Monday morning.

Cllr Peter Finney, cabinet member for environment at Dorset County Council, said that they have 50 people on site at the moment and this will increase to 70 workmen at the height of the rebuild.
