A POOLE beach hut has gone up for sale with a price tag nearing the six-figure mark.

It may not have running water, or electricity, but this 13ft 9in by 7ft 5in hut directly on the Canford Cliffs promenade does have panoramic sea views - and they don't come cheap.

It is up for sale for a staggering £95,000 - which would buy a luxury two-bed apartment in Phuket, Thailand, a character villa in Puglia, Italy, or a one- bed flat in Bournemouth.

But despite the hefty asking price, Tanya Wicks, of agents Savills, says she has already had a few calls since its launch yesterday.

She told the Echo: "I think the big advantage is that all the beach huts held by the council on a lease basis have a waiting list of about 10 years.

"Very seldom can you buy the freehold, which this is. If something is in demand the market will dictate the price."

In fact beach huts are so sought after that Borough of Poole is now refusing new applications for its stock of more than 1,200 until the waiting list goes down.

Tanya added that possible buyers might include beach hut enthusiasts, canny investors or those with a property in the area that lacks easy beach access.

The prestigious Canford Cliffs hut offers a little more than the traditional wooden shed-style hut.

Not only is it brick-built, it also boasts a private patio, sink and cupboards and touch sensor battery-operated lights.

But it is not the most expensive beach hut ever.

A hut at Mudeford sandbank near Christchurch went on the market for more than £135,000 in 2005 and a wooden chalet at West Bexington sold for £235,000.
