Anti-social on the streets

First published in Opinion

IT only takes a brief walk around the centre of Bournemouth to tell you that there is a problem on the streets.

Yesterday Bournemouth council launched a new campaign aimed at tackling the issues of rough sleeping and begging. The town centre is not the only hotspot, Boscombe and the Travel Interchange also have a similar problem.

Although a number of agencies are involved, it’s clear that a significant part of the answer lies with the police who need to get tough with, for example, aggressive individuals intimidating members of the public at cashpoints.

Definitely the best response will be intimidation, some bullies in uniform bullying the vulnerable,

It's not just Bournemouth and Boscombe that's affected by this. How about the impact it has on Poole and Upper Parkstone?

Has this report been written by someone who has spent any real amount of time in bmth? By far the worst examples of anti-social, intimidating and threatening behaviour I have seen are from the housed residents of bmth, stag/hen do's and holiday makers who have had far too much to drink!

Since whoever wrote this clearly hasn't got a clue what can be done about this alleged problem, what was the point of writing it

How about asking why there are so many homeless people on the street in the first place ?

Or is that rather a difficult, dare I say it, political, issue to address ?
