Why future looks bright for project

First published in Opinion

SOME entertainment venues become part of our lives. They have a history, style and soul that often no other building has.

Music venues like the Cavern Club in Liverpool have become legendary.

But there are others that never quite make it.

The Waterfront building, which housed the Imax cinema, is currently being demolished.

There will be few who mourn the demise of the structure, once voted England’s most hated building.

But some good is coming from its destruction. The community-led Shelley Theatre in Boscombe now has 200 former Imax seats.

Volunteers turned out on Saturday to help with the latest phase in getting this restoration project off the ground.

Bournemouth East MP Tobias Ellwood was there with his four-year-old son Alex among the many helpers.

Although it’s still got a long way to go, the future’s looking bright for this project.
