TV psychic to help in search for mum
PSYCHIC: Joe Power who specialises in working with police on missing persons and murder cases
PSYCHIC: Joe Power who specialises in working with police on missing persons and murder cases

A TV psychic medium has offered to help locate the body of a missing woman on the anniversary of her disappearance.

Joe Power has a reputation for using his abilities to help police and families in unsolved murder cases where the victim's body has never been recovered.

Now he has been asked by the mother of Debbie Griggs to help trace her daughter, who is presumed dead.

The 34-year-old mother of three, was four months pregnant when she was last seen and her family is convinced that she was murdered.

Debbie's cousin Jim Dunne from Hamworthy contacted the Daily Echo two years ago for people to come forward to help find her cousin's likely murderer.

Debbie's husband Andrew moved to St Leonards in Dorset with the couple's three sons after her disappearance.

She went missing from her home in Walmer near Deal, Kent, at around 10pm on May 5, 1999. The family car, a white Peugeot 309 was later found abandoned but her bank cards and credit cards had never been used. Her body has never been found.

Her mother Pat wrote to international psychic medium Joe Power from Liverpool, who has agreed to help. Mr Power has worked on several prominent cases.

Mr Power, who does not charge families for his help in tracking missing relatives, said: "I want to help the family find closure.

"The first thing I do is a reading with the family to establish whether this person is in the spirit world or has gone somewhere else. I need to find a motive for her murder then I will encourage her to say who is responsible.

"Then I will ask the police if the person has been questioned or overlooked and I will follow this up.

"Finally I will look for crunch information. For example I am hoping I will be able to pinpoint where Debbie has gone missing all these years later."

Kent Police's Detective Chief Inspector Dean Barnes, who is leading the inquiry in to Mrs Griggs's disappearance, said: "Despite exhaustive attempts to trace Debbie, we have yet to find out the truth of what happened to her.

"Knowing Pat, her mother as I have come to, I know that each day she wakes thinking of her daughter and her unborn grandchild. She wonders what became of them and what the circumstances were that surrounded her disappearance.

"On the days leading up to her disappearance, Debbie had committed herself to engagements to take place after May 5. I ask myself why Debbie would do that had it been her intention to disappear."

Anyone with information should contact the police incident room on 01303 289600 or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Psychic mediums are dangerous frauds who prey on vulnerable people when they are highly stressed.

And even among psychic mediums this guys is far from the top of the pile.

Its instructive to put the words "Joe Power fraud" into google.

I would offer my deepest sympathy to Pat and her family. I only hope their contact which this man does not give them more emotional turmoil and strife.

This comment i s ridiculous. Let people believe what they want to believe in. I have been to see a medium myself who told me many things that they could never have known themselves. It also brought me much comfort in a time of distress. If there is any hope, you should not be dashing that ny saying such shameful things as you have posted on this site. Good luck to Joe!

What a waste of Time, these people are just looking for prime opportunities to get on TV/radio.. They are complete frauds and do not help your situation when you are down, and looking for help!!! they just rasie your hopes, which are always 100% dashed... Bit like religion, there is no such thing, it was all a story (Chinese Whipsers), we are like any animal, or bacteria, we live and die..... just get on with life, and enjoy it as it is!!!

This psychic stuff is strange. Perhaps they could use him to find out about the stolen tools at the Winter Gardens. Maybe it was Karma as the Council actually stole the Winter Gardens from the people of the Borough. Strange you can't put comments on any sensitive to the council story anymore.

I stand by my comments 100%.

There are two types of psychic:

those that claim to have conversations with dead people but know they are lying

those that claim to have conversations with dead people and believe it themselves.

As a society, we quite often insist that people in the second category receive treatment for mental illness!

I really do not know why, in 2007, we give the these people any level of credence.

There has never ever been a single case of verifyable psychic contact. It is true they can be very convincing. But you only have to watch some Darren Brown to understand how their verbal tricks can work. They also routinely gather background information on subjects in the guise of screening checks. Believe what you want. But they are stage magicians. Nothing more.

Look into my eyes, dont look around the eyes, the eyes

Your under!

Hypnotherapy done properly can work, but how they do it on tv is utter bolox.

Have you ever been to a spiritualist church and seen a genuine medium at work? You would see the amount of true information that they are able to bring to the loved ones of people that have passed over to the other side. They are not magicians or con artists or whatever you decide to call them. They are normal people that have a gift to communicate with people that have passed on. I have seen many cases where contact has been genuine. Try it and go along to see if they can bring you comfort to know that those that you love are not suffering any more and are safe and well.

Joe Power - that's such a fake name. And he and all other so called psychics are frauds.

Mark of Bournemouth is very much entitled to his opinion, as is everyone else.

However, as a member of Debbie's family, we are desperate for news of her.

Her case is still being treated by Kent Police as an open murder inquiry and is reviewed on a regular basis.

So whilst Mark and others may not believe a medium can help us in our time of grief, it is *our* choice to at least try this avenue, in our quest for the truth behind Debbie's disappearance.

We welcome any publicity relating to Debbie's case and thank the Echo for highlighting it again for us, in the hope that one day soon, someone will step forward and give the Police, the news they are waiting to hear in order to help them solve this devastating family tragedy.

This link will show the case on the web pages of Kent Police just for info if anyone is interested.

I am deeply sorry for this family and what they have already gone through.

Please do not raise your hopes as the track record of this "psychic" in these matters is appalling.

First of all he contiunually claims on his web site to have helped the police in the Lyndsey Quy murder in Southport inspite of the investigating officer issuning a statement that this was not so. See http://www.theskepticexpress.com/Joe_Power_the_Lynsey_Quy_case.php

He also claimed to know the killer of Sally Anne-Bowman and said it was by a delivery driver who was named steven or Stephan White aged 24-26. Following DNA evidence the police charged Mark Dixie who is a chef and aged 34.

If you want to know more about the antics of this man just goole "Joe Power"

I can naturally understand that you want closure on this matter but do be very careful.

Joe Power has a spectacular record of being completely wrong in EVERY 'case' he claims to have worked on.
Recently Joe claimed to know the killer of the model Sally Anne Bowman and told the police that the killer was a Stephen/Stephan White, aged between 24 and 26 and a delivery driver. Following DNA evidence the police arrested and charged 36 year old Mark Dixie who is a chef! He claimed to have helped the police in the Lynsey Quy murder case, Detective Superintendent Geoff Sloan of Southport Police states: "I wish to state, categorically, that as Senior Investigating Officer on the Lynsey Quy murder, I made a policy decision not to use psychics on the investigation. Joe Power has allegedly made claims that he assisted the enquiry but this is not the case." He claims to known the location of missing girl Helen McCourt's body. Very surprisingly, the body has never been found. The man is a joke, using the deaths of others to further his own career.
