DO you recognise any of the players in this photograph of Dexter Sports YFC?

It was sent in by Paul Kybert who thinks it was taken during the 1989/90 football season.

He has been associated with the club for about 25 years in a variety of roles including coach/ manager, referee and on the committee.

Dexter Sports based at Canford Heath was formed in 1975 and took its name from the original sponsor Graham Dexter Sports shop. Catering for all age groups, it has been one of the most successful youth football clubs locally.

In its first year the under 12 team won the Dorset Rural Youth League, winning all 20 games played with only 10 against, and the under 15 side walked away with the Bournemouth Youth League, scoring 115 goals in their 14 matches, while only conceding15.

Billy Clark, a former Cherries defender who went on to play for Bristol Rovers, played for Dexter Sports in the early 1980s.

Former player Paul Bartlett, whose son has recently signed to play for the club’s under 7s team, has identified some of the boys in the picture as follows, back row, left to right, an unknown, Paul Andrews, Jason Christy-Smith, the goalkeeper Steve Pinhorne, three unknowns and Rob Treweek. Front row, an unknown, Dan West, Richard Guppy, Paul Bartlett and two unknowns.

Paul said Dan West went on to join Aston Villa and played eight reserve games from 1993 - 1995 before his career was cut short by injury. He has no idea what happened to him after that.

If you can name the other players or have an idea of where they are now contact Paul at kybert@hotmail.co.uk or via the website dextersportsyfc.org.uk or Echoes.
