PAUL Shee’s postcard of ‘The new Drive’ in Bournemouth printed on August 8 has been identified by many as the bridge over the Middle Chine near the West Overcliff Drive and McKinley Road junction which is still there today.
With the arrival of the motor car and the West Cliff area becoming a fashionable place to live, King’s Drive was built and opened to the public in November 1902 by the mayor.
The drive ran round the clifftops between Alum and Durley Chines and was later re-named West Cliff Drive before becoming the current West Overcliff Drive.
