Mike White said the picture of the Mill Pond at Swanick printed on August 10 is that of the Old Mill at Swanage.
During the time of Domesday in 1086 Swanage had a population of 30 residents who were mainly fishermen. The town was cut in half by the sea which stretched two miles in land and was surveyed in two parcels or manors, Swanick and Sonwic. The word swanick is derived from two words, swan the name of a bird in both Saxon and English, and wic, a curvature or inlet of the sea.
