As Bournemouth is a young town it may seem odd to talk of its archaeology, but the area had many signs of ancient inhabitants. Ordnance Survey maps published as the town expanded showed numerous 'Tumuli' which vanished beneath the advance of new streets and houses.

Bournemouth has probably lost more of its archaeology than actually survives today, and it is the task of the modern archaeologist to discover what happened to the various artefacts dug up.

Bryan Popple will be discussing 'Bournemouth's Lost Archaeology' at the Aspects of History talk at Bournemouth Central Library at the Triangle at 11am on August 3 followed by refreshments and questions.
