BERYL Churchill of Northbourne brought in a photographic album on the Western Hospital in Torquay, most of which are pictures taken during the First World War.
The album was put together by Violet Cullum, a sister at the Western, who later moved to Poole to work at the Cornelia Hospital, the forerunner to Poole Hospital.
Little is known about the Western, except like many hospitals around Britain, it was used to nurse wounded soldiers, back from the battlegrounds of France and Belgium. Some of the soldiers could have come from the Dorset area.
The album was later given to Beryl’s mother-in-law who was friends with Violet.
