Christians from around south Dorset of all denominations will meet up next week for a new five-day even involving worship, ministry and teaching.
Around 30 local churches have joined forces to organise the event called Connect 2010.
The Rural Dean for Poole, the Revd Jean de Garis said: “Jesus said that he would build his Church – and he wasn't talking about buildings. “The Church of Jesus is about the people of God coming together for worship and teaching so that we can live out the Good News of forgiveness, hope and healing through the power of his Holy Spirit. “I believe that this will be an event that will resource, encourage and train a large number of Christians to increase their effectiveness in mission and ministry within and beyond their local churches. I warmly support Connect.”
Connect 2010 will take place at Holton Lee, between Wareham and Poole from Wednesday to Sunday, July 14-18. Rev Graham Shaw, from Swanage, Wareham and Wool Methodist Churches said: “Here’s an opportunity for all the churches on South Dorset to connect, and more important still, to connect with the work of the Holy Spirit leading us forward in mission. Let us seize the moment!”
Speakers include Rev Canon Andrew White – known as the Vicar of Baghdad, Warden of Lee Abbey, Brian Draper and a team from the Middle East.
Rev Andy Bowerman, Mission Rector of Wareham said: “It is a huge honour to welcome the legendary Vicar of Baghdad into the parish of Wareham, alongside the teams from the Middle East.
“We anticipate some incredible stories of hope and transformation. “The leadership at Wareham Parish are really encouraged by the prospect of Connect at Holton Lee and all that it will stimulate not just during the programme in the summer but throughout the year.”
There is no entry charge for Connect, except for camping and caravanning which is available with views of Poole Harbour. For full details of the programme and activities see connect2010.org.uk.
