WHEN Monday morning comes around are your fingernails chewed to the quick with worry?

Or did you spend a blissful weekend free from the worries of work?

If it’s the former then you’re not alone as a new survey has revealed that for most people the weekend lasts little more than a day.

It takes most until 12.38pm on Saturday to fully unwind from work, but by 3.55pm on Sunday most have started worrying again.

The survey by budget hotel chain Premier Inn of 4,000 of its workers also found that around 53 per cent of workers were too tired to enjoy their weekend.

Last Saturday lunchtime in Bournemouth many people said work was still on their minds.

Healthcare assistant Vivienne Thompson, 50, of Bournemouth, said: “It takes me a while to switch off, probably until about 3am when I fall asleep knowing I have got to be at work for 7pm.”

Shirley Harper, 49, a shop manager, said many friends who had their own businesses “never seem to switch off”.

Teaching assistant team manager Janette Paulley, 55, of Bournemouth, said she was “usually chilled out by Friday afternoon,” but added: “It took years to get that way.”

Army medic trainee Nicola Thompson, 19, of Bournemouth, said: “I go out for a few bevvies and that’s how I unwind.”

By Sunday the cloud of work was hanging over many of those the Echo spoke to.

A 45-year-old nurse from Ferndown, said she thought about work “all the time”.

“I think about it all the time – weekends or not. It just pops into your mind,” she said.

Caroline Bohl, 25, visiting Bournemouth, said: “I think about work for a couple of hours after worrying if I’ve done something wrong.”
