WINNERS of a Daily Echo photography competition were finally revealed at the launch of BMI The Harbour Hospital’s new Cancer Care Centre in Poole on Wednesday night.

The top ten finalists were invited to the event where double Olympian and Commonwealth Games medallist, Liz Yelling, officially opened the £350,000 centre.

As part of the launch, the hospital held a photography competition with the Daily Echo to decorate the new unit with photographs capturing Dorset’s stunning landscapes.

These are some of the 30 pictures that were chosen from over 500 entries and will be on display at the new centre.

In first place was Brian Terrey who took a picture of Durdle Door.

He was presented with a £250 cheque.

In second place was John Lewis with his image of the Twin Sails Bridge. He won £150.

And in third place was Dean Holland with his picture of Corfe Castle.

His prize was £100.

Executive director at BMI The Harbour Hospital, Dan Stonell, said: “We are delighted to be able to treat patients in this brand new facility.

“The hospital offers a wide range of treatments and specialities but we are exceptionally proud of the cancer care delivered by our dedicated team of specialist nurses and consultants.

“Our care can now be delivered in a purpose-built unit with brand new bedrooms, a new consulting room and chemotherapy pods.”

At the end of February, the Daily Echo and BMI The Harbour Hospital invited readers to submit pictures that captured Dorset’s outstanding beauty.

The new centre will provide care for patients in three brand new air-conditioned bedrooms with en suite wet rooms and four self-contained pods each with a wireless TV and designated chair for chemotherapy treatment.

Andy Martin, editor and head of news at the Daily Echo praised the quality of all the finalists’ pictures as “absolutely outstanding.”
