A BEHIND the scenes glimpse into some of the world’s most spectacular visual effects will be presented at Bournemouth Arts By The Sea Festival events this week.

Master classes and screenings from the visual effects teams behind Skyfall, Life of Pi and the Lone Ranger will be taking place tonight at Pavilion Dance for The Art of Visual Effects event.

Hosted by top industry experts from Academy-Award-winning studio Industrial Light & Magic, the event will offer an exclusive screening and a Q&A session.

Bournemouth Arts by the Sea is in partnership with the new Bournemouth Visual Effects Festival BFX, which aims to make the town a digital hub and centre of excellence for animation.

BFX will be taking over the Triangle for a weekend of free workshops and screenings on Saturday and Sunday. This year there is a distinct live score element to the festival as Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra will be accompanying special showings of Alfred Hitchcock’s early films, restored by the British Film Institute.

Hitchcock’s first ever film, The Pleasure Garden will be screened at the Pier Theatre on Saturday at 2.30pm and 7.30pm. Gobbeldegook theatre has taken inspiration from fairy tales for its highly interactive show, Deep in the Woods, which will be showing at Pavilion Dance on Sunday. The opening weekend of the festival saw performances from Mr Wippy and the Conettes, Dick Danger and a spectacular showstopper from Mutoid Waste on the seafront. Spokesperson Rachel Shimell says: “The aim is for the festival to become a major cultural event in the international calendar, an artist-led festival that enables artists to create new work, and showcase their best work.”
