Fit Christchurch Fun Day

The Fit Christchurch Fun Day returns to Christchurch Quay on Saturday.

This year marks the fifth family fun day and a return to Christchurch Quay after the event was held at Barrack Road Recreation Ground in conjunction with the Olympic Torch Relay celebrations last year.

The fun day is scheduled to take place from 10am to 4pm with an aim to exhibit and promote healthy lifestyles with the chance to also try out products, activities and healthy food.

Children can have fun on the inflatable assault course, the bucking bronco and many other attractions as well as testing their skills on a climbing wall and penalty shoot-out.

While many of the activities are free of charge, there is a small charge of £2 for six of them.

Throughout the day a programme of exciting displays is being planned and is likely to include taekwondo, zumba, fitness and belly dancing.

The Fun Day will also incorporate the Christchurch Family Bike Ride from Christchurch Quay to Mudeford Quay and back. The ride will depart from Christchurch Quay at 11am. Anyone wishing to take part should be at the Bandstand by 10.45am.

Boscombe Vintage Market at Russell Cotes

Boscombe Vintage Market will be popping up at the Russell Cotes Museum and Gallery on Saturday.

The vibrant market, which has been a big hit with shoppers since it was set up in October 2012, usually takes place on the first Saturday of each month in the Royal Arcade, but will make its first visit to the museum from 10am to 3pm.

AFC Bournemouth v Blackpool

After successfully snuffing out fancied Wigan Athletic in their last home game, AFC Bournemouth will be hoping to turn the tables on stoic Seasiders Blackpool on Saturday at the Goldsands Stadium.

Purbeck Marathon

More than 200 runners are expected to take the start line for the second Purbeck Marathon on Sunday.

The race - billed as 'one of the world's most scenic marathons' - was hailed a resounding success during its inaugural year.

A respected runners’ magazine rated it the third best marathon in the UK during 2012.

Organisers says the race is not for the faint-hearted, as it boasts a demanding circuit that rises and falls along Purbeck's small tracks, its undulating downs and coastal pathways.

Much of the route is off-road but it does pass through Worth Matravers, Corfe Castle, Kingston Swanage and deserted Tyneham.

Among the entrants this year is Bournemouth runner Steven Way, who won the 2012 event. Also, Jim Whitmarsh from Southampton will be competing in his 99th Marathon.

An event spokesman said: “The lucky male and female winners will receive a superb prize package, which includes a stunning print from Swanage artist Cathy Veale.

Last year the marathon helped raises £1,500 to Swanage Carnival charities. In 2013 the event will continue to support these charities, as well as Help for Heroes.

The race starts in Swanage at 9.30am.

Dorset Blind Association's annual fun run

Dorset Blind Association’s fourth annual charity fun run takes place on Sunday from Boscombe Pier.

Runners can choose to be blindfolded for half of either the 5k or 10k race.

Those taking part in the challenge will race as a pair, trusting their partner to lead them for their half of the run.

Registration takes place at 9am before a 10am start.

Battle of Britain parade

Christchurch will salute the heroes of the Battle of Britain with a service and parade in the town on Sunday, September 15.

A service will be held at the Priory from 11.30am, followed by a parade to the old Mayor’s Parlour in the High Street.

The current mayor, Cllr John Lofts, will preside over a salute there at around 1pm.

And what about the weather?

Saturday is looking like the best day to get out and about as it will be dry with a top temperature of 15C. Showers are forecast from noon onwards on Sunday with a high of 16C.
