STUDENTS and staff from The Arnewoood School have presented a cheque for more than £2,500 to help re-build schools damaged in the Nepalese earthquake.

Following April’s devastating earthquakes the school held a fundraising event to raise money for the DCWC Nepal charity – a charity Arnewood worked with six years ago to help build a new school in a Nepalese village.

They raised a total of £2,521 which has since been presented to trustees from the charity.

In total they raised £2,521, which they presented to trustees from the charity.

Gary Collier, of DCWC Nepal, said: "It was great to be back down to the Arnewood School after six years.

"The money should stretch to the repairs needed at the school and to help those badly affected in the villages nearby. We would like to thank the school for all they have done."

DCWC, Development of Children and Women Centre, Nepal, was established in 2003 to help the poor women and children of Nepal by providing educational and health facilities.

Since that time the charity has gone on to build 15 schools and a hospital in various rural areas of Nepal.

Head of School, Nigel Pressnell, said: "Nepal holds a very special place in all our hearts after we worked on the project to build a new school for a Nepalese community.

“News of the earthquakes made us all determined to raise as much money as possible to help DCWC Nepal on the path to re-building the schools again."
