A MAN from Swanage was found dead in the back of a vehicle after asphyxiating himself, an inquest heard.

Matthew John Adams, who lived in the high street, died on February 22.

Police and ambulance were called to Peveril Road after 35-year-old Mr Adams was found dead in the back seat of a vehicle.

At the opening of his inquest in Bournemouth on Thursday, Dorset coroner Brendan Allen heard that Mr Adams’ mother identified his body.

Police established there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

A post-mortem was carried out at Holly Tree Lodge on March 2, and the cause of death was established as asphyxia, smothering and nitrogen gas inhalation. Mr Adams was found to have a depressive mood disorder.

“Mr Adams’ death was reported to the coroner some time ago, and an investigation was opened by Mrs Griffin,” Mr Allen said.

He added the inquest would be adjourned until September 4 while statements were considered.
