UPDATE: James MacDonald has been found safe and well in Bournemouth.

Police are calling for help to find a 91-year-old Swanage man who has gone missing after a trip on the bus.

James MacDonald left a house in Queen’s Road at around 1.30pm on Sunday to catch a bus from Swanage.

He was expected home by around 8.30pm but he has failed to return. He was reported missing just after midnight.

James is white and wears glasses. He was wearing a dark suit and light-coloured flat cap. He is slightly deaf but does not wear a hearing aid and speaks with a strong Scottish accent.

Searches have been carried out overnight at local bus stations and in the Swanage area. These are continuing this morning.

Chief Inspector Stewart Dipple, of Dorset Police, said: “James is fit for his age and enjoys catching the bus, often into Bournemouth or Poole. We don’t know where he went yesterday but he was expected to have returned home by around 8.30pm last night but no one has seen him since.

“James has never gone missing before and we are very worried about him. His family say he can sometimes become confused with bus timetables and will sit in the station or at bus stops waiting for the next bus to arrive.

“James might have missed the bus home and might have taken shelter somewhere overnight. We are issuing a photo in the hope that someone might have seen him or a man matching his description and can tell us where he is.

“If James sees this message, I would urge him to please get in touch with us. We just want to know you are safe.”

Anyone with any information or knowledge as to James’ whereabouts should call Dorset Police on 101, quoting incident number 02:01.
