A YOUNG driver who only recently passed her test was lucky to escape injury after her car ploughed into a roadside stream.

The woman, employed at the Seven Stars pub in Wool, lost control of her Vauxhall Corsa shortly after leaving work on Thursday afternoon.

Seven Stars landlord Steve Turland said: "It was one of our bar girls, she only passed her test a week ago.

"She left here the other day at 3pm, then ten minutes later I got a phone call from her saying 'come and help me, I'm stuck in the river'.

"I said 'how did you get in there' and she just said 'I don't know, I don't know'.

"Nobody was hurt, which is the main thing, we all had a laugh about it. I told her 'you're going to be in the Echo about this one'."

The woman, who declined to be named, crashed off the East Burton Road just a few yards from the pub.
