THE brakes have been slammed on antisocial activity after bollards and metal shutters were installed at a car park.

Residents near Asda at Holes Bay had complained about young drivers gathering in the multi-storey at night, playing loud music, revving engines and performing wheel-spins.

Poole Town and Oakdale Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) approached the supermarket, which agreed to act.

Simon Campbell, a manager at Asda on West Quay Road, said so far the measures put in place have proved highly successful.

He said blocking access to the multi-storey had “flushed” the drivers into the open-air part of the car park, making them far easier to deal with.

He said the top deck of the multi-storey, previously used for performing “donuts”, was now totally locked down.

Installation of one final bollard and the roller shutter would soon secure the ground floor level, too, he added.

Sgt Billy Bulloch, from the SNT, said a number of Section 59 warnings – issued to nuisance drivers – had been dished out and a vehicle seized.

He added: “The bollards will help to end anti-social driving at this particular car park.”

The multi-storey is now shut from 11pm to 8am. Shoppers are still able to use the open-air car park.
