A COUPLE found inspiration for their baby’s name from the place she was born.

But it wasn’t Brooklyn or Paris – little Kia was born on the back seat of a Kia people carrier.

Tony and Samantha were just pulling into Poole Hospital when their little one popped out.

The relieved and delighted parents from Parkstone decided to ditch the original name of “Tilley” to mark her unusual birth.

Mum Samantha Smyth, 23, said: “I don’t think we would have used Volkswagen or Citroen!”

Dad Tony Richardson, 24, said: “We have decided she doesn’t look like a Tilley and settled on Kia.”

The drama started around 2am on Sunday when Samantha first suspected she was going into labour. The couple phoned Samantha’s mum who picked them up in a seven-seat Kia Carens.

But as they arrived at Poole Hospital around 4.30am Samantha said she could feel the baby’s head.

“Her mum said ‘don’t be silly, just don’t push’,” said Tony, aged 23. “But Samantha said ‘No, I can actually feel the baby’s head in my hands!’.”

As they pulled up Tony rushed to the door and banged for help and the midwives arrived to cut the umbilical cord from around Kia’s neck.

Samantha, a mum of three, said: “She literally came flying out! It was the best birth I’ve had.

“It was horrible to see the umbilical cord but the nurses were so quick it was unbelievable. They were brilliant.”

Kia arrived two weeks early weighing in at 6lbs 7ozs and is said to be doing fine – although the car’s interior now needs to be valeted.
