A GROUP of travellers who set up in the car park of the fire damaged Miller & Carter steakhouse in Poole left over the weekend.

There were a dozen caravans and other vehicles parked on the site on Wednesday afternoon and they were still present on Friday.

Borough of Poole said it was aware of the unauthorised encampment and that environmental services visited the restaurant car park in Wallisdown Road, however it was unable to take any legal action as the site is privately owned.

The steakhouse is currently closed after a blaze ripped through its roof a fortnight ago.

Miller & Carter said work to repair the building was not anticipated to be delayed due to the presence of the travellers.

The entrance to the site is currently marked off with cones.
