A FLAT in Poole has been closed following complaints from neighbours about anti-social behaviour.

Borough of Poole and Poole Housing Partnership obtained a premises closure order against the property in Lagland Street under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

The order was obtained on November 2 and prohibits anyone, including the tenant, from entering the property for a period of up to three months.

Neighbours were complaining about loud noise, excessive numbers of visitors to the property and threatening behaviour.

The tenant was warned verbally and in writing by Poole Housing Partnership about persistent conduct in breach of tenancy, but things did not improve. The order now makes it a criminal offence for anyone, including the tenant to return to the property.

Cllr Karen Rampton, cabinet portfolio holder for housing and communities said: "Fortunately, in Poole, we don't often see anti-social behaviour on this scale. Thankfully we have these powers that enable us to take action as a last resort, and we are pleased to have achieved the full closure order with the support of other agencies including Dorset Police."

Su Spence, chief executive of Poole Housing Partnership, added: “This is the first time we have used the new absolute ground to evict a tenant, and this action brings much needed relief for neighbouring residents, and enables us to bring issues to a resolution when no other action has been shown to work.”
