EUROVISION star Russ Spencer stormed to victory on BBC quiz show Pointless Celebrities - winning more than £1,000 for the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH).

Russ, who was born in Parkstone and performed with the band Scooch at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest, took on the task of finding pointless answers with fellow band member Natalie Powers at the weekend.

The pair won the Eurovision themed edition with a pointless answer about Luther Vandross singles.  They beat Johnny Logan and Linda Martin, Jenny Frost and Sophie McDonnell, and Jay and Cheryl from Bucks Fizz.

They won a fantastic £2,500 for their chosen charities with Russ's choice, the Bournemouth Hospital Charity, taking home £1,250.

Russ said his friends and family had benefited from the hospital in the past.

“I wanted to support the hospital as my mum was treated there and I wanted to show my gratitude," said Russ.

His winnings will go towards a new £5,000 leg curl machine for the physiotherapy department.

The machine will replace the old equipment and will benefit patients needing to strengthen their hamstring muscles.

This is particularly vital for patients who have had ligament reconstructions in their knees but will be used to help many patients who need to strengthen their legs.

Russ is also showing his support for the charity by officially starting the Twilight Walk for Women at Bournemouth seafront on Friday at 8pm (MAY 20).

The event sees walkers take a 1km, 5km or 10km stroll at twilight to help raise money for vital equipment at RBH..

Funds raised at the 2016 event will go towards Myosure equipment that will help diagnose and treat cancer of the womb and Botox injections to help treat women with overactive bladders.

Russ said: “I’m very proud to be supporting Bournemouth Hospital Charity and I’m looking forward to seeing lots of walkers at the starting line.

"It doesn’t matter which distance you sign up to, what matters is that you are supporting your local hospital.

"I hope lots of people get behind their local hospital and sign up to raise funds for this life changing equipment.”

There is still time to sign up to take part in the walk which starts from Bournemouth Pier Approach at 8pm on Friday.
