ONE of Poole's busiest roads will reopen on Monday after bad weather delayed works to create an access road to a new £14.5m Audi showroom by four weeks.

Old Wareham Road closed on November 20 and was first set to reopen on January 11.

But heavy rains held back progress on a £200,000 roadworks scheme to create a new right hand turn lane into the site at the Summit Business Park.

Borough of Poole then said on January 26 that the closure would be extended for a second time until February 5.

Borough of Poole (BOP) today tweeted that the road was now scheduled to re-open by 6am on Monday, February 8.

A spokesperson said: "Old Wareham Road Update: The road is scheduled to re-open by 6am on Monday 8 February 2016. Many thanks to all for your patience."

Old Wareham Road, which connects Ringwood Road with Dorset Way, closed on Friday November 20 - initially while Southern Gas Network connected a mains supply to the new premises, and from November 23 onwards to allow the junction improvements to go ahead.

A spokesperson for Borough of Poole, said at the time the council was "taking the opportunity to improve the road layout and install new street lighting on Old Wareham Road" involving widening the road and creating a new third lane for vehicles turning right into the business park.

The new Poole Audi - set to be the biggest in the UK and one of the largest in the world - is set to open at the four-acre site on Old Wareham Road this summer - creating 200 jobs.
