A TEENAGE boy has been stabbed near a school in Poole.

Dorset Police launched an investigation after the 17-year-old victim was seriously assaulted shortly after 3pm in an alleyway close to Poole High School, which is based off Wimborne Road.

The force confirmed on Thursday night that the youngster was taken to hospital with a single stab wound.

He was released from hospital on Friday morning.

His condition is not life-threatening and no one else was injured in the incident.

The weapon has not been recovered as yet and detectives are keeping an open mind as to what weapon was involved, but it is not believed to be a knife.

A fifteen-year-old from Poole has been arrested on suspicion of assault.

The alleyway, which is just yards from both the entrance to the school and Poole's police station, is being guarded by officers. A cordon is in place at both ends.

Officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team could be seen carrying out high-visibility patrols in the area as officers seek to reassure the community and these are set to continue.

Bournemouth Echo:

Shocked nearby residents told the Daily Echo they had seen police activity near the school at around the time students were leaving for the day.

“This is really worrying and a step up from the petty crime and anti-social behaviour we have become used to around here,” said one resident. “This has happened in broad daylight at a time when there are literally hundreds of children in the area."

Another resident said: “We have seen the police going up and down the road. It is a real shock, completely unexpected. Our thoughts are with the lad now – I’m pleased to hear he’s not in danger - and we’re all hoping he makes a full recovery.”

Poole Neighbourhood Inspector Shawn Whitley, said: “While I am fully aware that this incident will have caused great concern to the community, I would like to reassure them that a full and robust investigation is underway to get to the bottom of exactly what happened.

“There will continue to be a heightened police presence in the area while enquiries take place and I would like to thank the community for their assistance and co-operation.

“Should any residents have concerns our local neighbourhood policing team can be contacted to answer any questions and offer assurances.

“I would also like to reiterate that this incident was not connected to the alleged assault in Poole Park on Saturday.

“Finally, if anyone has any information that may help detectives with their investigation I would ask them to please call police on 101 quoting incident number 28:260.”

If anyone has any information that may help officers with their investigation, they are asked to call Dorset Police on 101, quoting incident number 28:260.
