POLICE have cordoned off a property in Fernside Avenue, Poole as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged stabbing at Poole Park.

On Wednesday afternoon, a semi-detached house along the road was taped off and there were reports of a heavy police presence outside the house, including armed police.

Bournemouth Echo:

Residents also reported seeing forensic officers at the scene.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "The property has been cordoned off as part of an ongoing investigation in relation to a reported assault in Poole Park."

Bournemouth Echo:

A 59-year-old was walking near to the crazy golf on Saturday, January 23, sometime between 6.15pm and 7pm when he was approached from behind.

He sustained wounds to the stomach and has undergone surgery, but is now recovering at home.

Nothing was taken from the victim and the alleged offender ran toward the war memorial. The victim and suspect were not known to each other.

Officers have carried out searches of Poole Park since the alleged assault to find the weapon used, but this has so far not been recovered.

On Tuesday, a 37-year-old man from Poole was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent. He has since been released on police bail, until mid February, pending further enquiries.

Then, the following day another man, also aged 37, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. This man is still helping officers with their enquiries.

As police continued searching the property and a number of vehicles outside, residents told the Daily Echo the area was normally a quiet neighbourhood.

One Fernside Avenue neighbour, who asked not to be named, said: “I’m not sure what is going on, the police haven’t told me but I can say there were lots of them at the house yesterday night. It is unusual for this type of thing to be going on here.”

In the aftermath Saturday’s Poole Park incident, a Dorset Police spokesman said: “We would like to reassure the public that this was an isolated incident.

“Officers have been carrying out increased patrols in the area while we investigate the incident.”

Witnesses should contact Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident number 23:313.
