YELLOW is the colour of choice for a hospice, which hopes to raise money by dedicating a day to wearing the colour next month.

Lewis-Manning Hospice will be hosting a number of events for Hospice Awareness Month, including a patients’ tea party, cream tea, bike ride, book sale, and treasure hunt. And on June 24, the charity will be encouraging supporters to don their brightest sunshine yellow clothes on Wear Yellow Day to raise funds.

Maria Tidy, fundraising manager at Lewis-Manning Hospice, said: “Hospice Awareness Month is the ideal time to help Lewis-Manning and make a real difference to the lives of our patients.

“There are lots of ways in which you can get involved, whether at work, school, clubs, or at your home. Some people go all out with face paints and wigs, and others are a bit more discreet choosing accessories with yellow scarves, jewellery, hair clips, and badges.

“We’ve even heard stories of people sponsoring their bosses to dress up as yellow characters like Homer Simpson and Bananaman. One of our patients actually came to the hospice dressed as Big Bird from Sesame Street,” she added.

Another significant event taking place is Tie a Yellow Ribbon, an opportunity for reflection and thanksgiving in the grounds of the hospice on June 24 and 25 from 2.30pm until 4.30pm. Members of the public are invited to a tie a yellow ribbon in memory of a loved one, who may or may not have attended the hospice.

And the hospice has this year organised a treasure hunt on June 28 in Bournemouth town centre, which will see teams follow routes with their clue packs to find two costumed characters, solve cryptic clues and complete a scavenger and photo challenge. The £20 fee (£10 for children) includes a Yellow bus pass for the day and a barbecue at the end.

“All our care and support is free, so we hope lots of people will get involved with our events and help us raise as much money as possible to continue to offer these vital services,” Maria said.
